Stories can be found in the bellies of a few very special kilns.
Not every kiln is capable of leaving its touch on the work being fired, but a “Kazegama” WindKiln leaves a unique thumbprint. Fired heavily near the flame front with soda, basic forms (if they survive) can become gems of the fire.
The soda and fire test the surface to the point that it starts to break down and recrystallize into a work of Art with a shared authorship.
Artist and Kiln collaborate to create objects of elemental beauty.
