Day 47

Spent two day reading and rereading the first 8 pages of Harold Rosenberg’s 1964 book of essays “The Anxious Object “. A book that’s 55 plus years old and still carries its weight. The opening pages of his prelude were written as words of an oracle, deeply insightful and surprisingly prophetic, warning of the coming appropriation of rebellion by the acidemic establishments and formulaic faux authenticity that will become the standard model recommended by critics and dealers. He was writing about action painting and abstract expressionism, but he might have as well been writing about the rise of punk and the cultural shifts that it brought about.
